In celebration of Ryan Marquez’s first jazz album release “Moving Forward In Time”, his trio will be performing a special celebration show featuring all of his original compositions from the album, popular covers arranged by the trio and other original material.
Featuring the dynamic Steve Davis on Drums and the melodic Ben Wheeler on bass.
This album features instrumental compositions inspired by Ryan’s experiences as a resident of St. Louis. The majority of the tunes were written during the first part of 2017 at a time of much turmoil and tension in the city, the country and Ryan’s personal life with the intention of conveying emotional intentions through song names such as of “Serenity”, “Patience” and “Lovely Day”. The title track “Moving Forward” is an ode to the inevitable task of carrying onward in the face of adversity, something the city of STL,has experienced frequently in recent memory.
The album features 8 original compositions and 2 popular covers arranged for piano trio. Set for digital release on 3/13/18 via major music distribution services (Itunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play etc) this night will be the first that physical copies of the album will be available to the public for a special celebration price of 10$ (a $5 discount!).
It is sure to be a joyous atmosphere appropriate for audiences of all ages.
In January of 2018, Ryan was awarded an Artist Support Grant for the funding of this project. Come celebrate a night of his original work at one of the most intimate concert spots in St. Louis.
Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, music has always been Ryan’s passion. Initiating his musical career at age 5 on piano, he has been performing, writing, recording, producing, and inspiring others through his music ever since. With 25 years of experience, Ryan has sung and performed piano/keyboards, organ, & bass on stages all over the world in numerous styles/settings. (USA, UK, Germany, France, Holland, Kosovo, Liechtenstein, Austria and more) Baptized in Soul/Gospel, indoctrinated by Jazz and raised by Hip Hop/American Culture, his playing reflects the modern paradigm of artists focused on shifting music’s energy to a fluid melting pot of familiar albeit uniquely, conscious sounds.
The current trio configuration was cultivated in the winter of 2016 upon meeting producer/drummer extraordinaire Steve Davis through doing side work together with jazz singer Joe Mancuso. Davis has performed with some of jazz’s heaviest hitters including David Liebman, Bill Evans, Richie Beirach, John Pattitucci, and Benny Golson. He has over 165 recordings to his credit, including 8 of his own. Steve served on the faculty of Jamey Aebersold Jazz Clinics from 1982-2008. Bassist Ben Wheeler rounds out the trio with his rich sound and melodic note selection. Ben is a St. Louis gem and has been a major pillar in the jazz scene for decades. He now serves on the jazz faculty at Webster University and his performance credits include Willie Akins, Ptah Williams, Corey Christiansen and more. Together the group performs a mixture of originals, classic jazz standards arranged to their liking and familiar pop/covers re-imagined in their own soulful voice.
In addition to leading his own trio, Ryan currently leads and performs regularly with three bands, Fresh Heir (Pop/Soul/Funk), The Belief Cycle (Pop/Dance) and The People’s Key (Organ/Soul-Jazz/Funk) in addition to performing regularly in the Mid-West with many like-minded artists ranging a variety of styles. He has international tour experience throughout England, France, Germany, Holland, Austria, Hungary, Kosovo and more as well as countless hours circuiting the Mid-West and West Coast.
